On October 8, 1956 New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen became the only pitcher in history to throw a no-hitter in the World Series. Larsen hurled the gem against the cross town rival Dodgers in game 5 of the Fall Classic that the Yankees would eventually win in 7 games.

On October 3, 1951 The Giants' Bobby Thompson hit one of the most famous home runs in baseball history in the final playoff game versus the hated Dodgers. His "Shot Herard 'Round the World" won the NL Pennant and capped an amazing comeback by the Giants who had trailed the Dodgers by 13 1/2 games during the regular season.

During a five-day span in 1938, Johnny Vander Meer wrote his name into baseball lore. The Cincinnati Reds left-hander tossed his first no-hitter on June 11, beating the Boston Braves 3-0. Four days later in Brooklyn, he no-hit the Dodgers 6-0 in the first night game ever played at Ebbets Field becoming the only player ever to hurl no-hitters in consecutive starts.
